A new commissioned vase

It’s not often that a client takes you to their home, points to a place on their sideboard and says “Make me something to go here.”

This is especially welcome, when ‘here’ is in a beautiful room, surrounded by understated but incredibly elegant abstract paintings, lit from both sides with generous windows looking out onto fabulous, mature gardens.

A wonderful challenge.

This slipcase vase, part glazed and part exposed underglaze, is my response.

Another commissioned piece….

In stark contrast to the previous commission, this one specified bright, colourful, sunny and three-dimensional…

Many thanks for the challenge Laura!

Commissioned piece….

I’m delighted with this commissioned piece which pares back the Arrow Head pattern to a monochrome design, really emphasising the twisted shape of this vase.

Thank you Jonny and Wei!

Pot video 5

The fifth video that Arnaud made is of one of the vases in my Tall Oval Vases collection.  The woven pattern is generated by straight lines running from one side of the small oval at the base to the other side of the larger oval at the lip.

Pot video 4

This, Arnaud’s fourth video, features another of my Cinched Oval Vases: Diagonal (ii).  The pattern is more painterly than many of my pots but it still has an underlying structure formed by a strong geometric spiralling pattern.

Pot videos 3

This is Arnaud’s third video of my pots.  This one is of the two Twisted Oval Vases, Arrow Heads (i) and (ii).  Made from the same mould, these could work as a pair, although they have now been sold individually.

Pot videos 2

Here is the second of Arnaud’s videos.

This is of Cinched Oval Vases, Diagonals (iii) and (iv).  The shapes are inverted and the colours complementary, so they work as a pair – or individually.

Pot videos!

I spent a cheerful afternoon with Arnaud Pitois yesterday making videos of some of my pots.

Here is the first.  This is of Flat Oval Vases, Squares (i) and (ii).  The inverted pattern of squares enables these pots to work as a pair – or individually.

TWO NEW POTS – AND FLOWERS

The form of these two vases is created by three ovals which are twisted, one above the other, to create a shape that bulges in the middle when seen from one side but cinches from the other – from another angle it looks completely straight sided.

The geometry of the pattern is created by the form, the colours – inspired by a rural sunset – are mirrored on each pot.

The flowers… are just perfect.
