A NEW SHAPE…

I am enjoying working with a new shape: Menhir, named because it reminds me of the stones that Obelix carries around in the Asterix books, which helped me learn to read French!

Here are the first two menhirs, which develop different themes that I have been exploring in my past work: weaving patterns and trompe l’oeil.

A new commissioned vase

It’s not often that a client takes you to their home, points to a place on their sideboard and says “Make me something to go here.”

This is especially welcome, when ‘here’ is in a beautiful room, surrounded by understated but incredibly elegant abstract paintings, lit from both sides with generous windows looking out onto fabulous, mature gardens.

A wonderful challenge.

This slipcase vase, part glazed and part exposed underglaze, is my response.

Another commissioned piece….

In stark contrast to the previous commission, this one specified bright, colourful, sunny and three-dimensional…

Many thanks for the challenge Laura!

Pot video 5

The fifth video that Arnaud made is of one of the vases in my Tall Oval Vases collection.  The woven pattern is generated by straight lines running from one side of the small oval at the base to the other side of the larger oval at the lip.

Pot video 4

This, Arnaud’s fourth video, features another of my Cinched Oval Vases: Diagonal (ii).  The pattern is more painterly than many of my pots but it still has an underlying structure formed by a strong geometric spiralling pattern.

SISTERS.2 NEW SHOW

Despite working completely independently, my sister Sophie Arup and I have always been surprised by the slightly eerie way that our work is complementary.  Celebrating this, we exhibited together in 2014.  Our second exhibition, showcasing our work of the past four years, is taking place in February 2018, at the Herrick Gallery on Piccadilly.  Remarkably, our pieces continue to exude extraordinary synergy despite the different mediums in which we work.

Sisters.2 is curated by CO: Marcus Cole and Issy Ogden.
